Remove tar lining (with a torch or dry ice)

Cut the ends of all bolts (extra lenght)

Remove lights and replace with platic covers

Have the whole car, gutted and without engine, soaked in an acid bath to remove everything (paint, glue, stickers,etc.) prior to building the car

Replace suspension components (trialing arms,coilovers,suspension table,etc.)

Use lightweight lugnuts

Remove all environment related systems and use a standalone

Cut all floors and replace with lightweight material

Weight reduction is very nice. It gives you more available power, better braking and better handling but for daily use, it's a little pain. Personnally, my car is pretty gutted, no more plastic panels, carpets, lining, a lot of lighter engine parts, radio and speakers, battery,....The noise inside the car has increased a LOT and no radio makes long trip boring....even worst when sitting in a fb race bucket seat. However, my car will be for racing purpose only next year...otherwize, I would have reconsidered.

I wouldn't remove this ^^^ because of safety.


I would add next:
-remove hood and trank locks and install hood/trunk pins
-replace sunroof with lightweighted materials
-remove window motors
-remove door central lock
-remove gas tank and trunk lock cables
-remove trunk gas shocks
-remove rear wiper/washer/rear washer motor.

I said these are for normal or TRACK use. I also said to replace them with lighter materials, which people have done. And for the track, most people remove these and have cages.

I already had the ones you mentioned in the list.

I'm more of a "fast with class" kind of guy, so I'm leaving in my interior stuff and things that are <u>visable</u> from the cockpit. But I just got done removing all the hatch linings and there are also two metal brackets on the struts. All the screws weigh as much as the lining it seems. But overall I think there is about 5-8lbs worth of stuff on the walls.

I also removed the long heat shield from under the car. I'm not sure what this would do, but I've been driving it for a few days now with no problems. It weighs a good 5lbs with 6 bolts holding it on. Those of you in the colder areas shouldnt have a problem doing this.


Like I said, I'm doing the weigh reduction that you wouldn't notice. Fast with class! fing02.gif

I'd say a couple of pounds.

You could remove the rims and replace them with 150/65/13 lightweight stock wheels.

Although it looks like crap (drives like crap too) you'll save loads of weight because it's rotational mass

or whatever

I've gotten my Tib down to almost 2500 with the free mods and nothing touched in the cabin but floormats.
