Red face Programming Keyless Entry for '01-'03 Elantras (GLS/GT/VE)

Material needed:

• Keyless entry remote
• Philips screwdriver
• Very small flathead screwdriver
• Razor blade (optional)

Time required:
If you know how to easily remove your dash fascia, this will take you no more than 5 minutes.

Beginners, take your time, you don't want to crack your dash.

Begin by pulling out your dash fascia, taking it off all the way is not required, just enough to get behind the HVAC controls to the ETACS.

First, remove these screws: (See that gray box where the ashtray was? That's the ETACS)

And these screws too..

Grabbing the fascia down by the ashtray/cigarette lighter, very slowly pull out until the dash fascia comes unclipped. Pull until you have enough room to move around behind it.

After you have enough room to move around, take out these four screws, which hold in the HVAC controls.

Move the HVAC down and out of your way, and you will see this:

Feel around the right hand side of the ETACS under the white cord and you will feel a sticker on the side.

This is where you can use either the screwdriver or razor blade, or just your fingernails if you wish. Remove the sticker as much as you can, as you can see I didn't get all of it. Just enough to get to the switch.

Once you have the switch uncovered, you need to make sure it's flipped DOWN in the "Set" position. The switch is depressed into the ETACS, you will need to use the small flathead screwdriver or fingernails to flip it. You will know it is in Set mode by trying to use your remote. If nothing happens, you're doing good so far.

Get your old remote AND your new remote, because they have to be programmed at the same time, or else your old one will not work anymore.

With the ETACS in Set mode, press the lock button on both remotes, one right after the other. Just once on one, then once on the other. Flip the switch up and test both remotes. Don't forget to leave the switch in the up "ON" position. wink.gif

It worked for me the first time, but you may have to try a few times. if both remotes work, then you can put your car back together!

DO NOT TRY THIS ON XD2's!!! You have to take it to the dealer, sorry. sad.gif
