I'm installing a new CAI and would like to move my battery in the trunk.
Did anyone moved them yet and do you have a DIY or some basic instruction to do it right. This modification would be to accommodate my CAI and mostly to move some weight from the front to the rear of the car, as you know our Tibis are very heavy in the front so every little modification helps. I never seen it done on a Tibi but I know that with a cable booster wire and a boat battery cover for about $50.00 it can be done, I just don’t know where to past the cable I guess. Any help would be appreciated. |
I've wanted to move mine into the trunk, if for nothing else, more space in the engine bay, and my engine will run cooler. I've seen it done several times.
For me, and for you, I HIGHLY suggest you get a Optima battery, they will not vent like the others out there will. I also HIGHLY suggest you get one of the battery relocation kits you can find on Summit's website or any of the many others. The kits they have come with the wiring, a box that is DOT rated, some of them are in nice colors or chrome, and with all the brackets, fittings, and a vent tube, for justin case. LOL If you are going to run wire that is THAT heavy of a gauge, you'll probably have to cut a new hole in the firewall or somethin. |
Thanks for the info., I found this kid @ summit's http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...G1200A&view=257, must be what you were refering too. I see if I can find other kits but this will probably be my next weekend project. I'll take some picture if I get it done for a good DIY.

hm... get a good DIY and I could imagine quite a few people following your lead... I'll have to consider this... it'd free up a ton of space

thought id help contribute a bit...
http://vamp.darkravers.net/TipsRelocatingB...teryToTrunk.cfm http://www.lextreme.com/battery.htm and there is supposedly a real big hole in the firewall right down by the clutch. some people said they were able to run 0 gauge wire through it. |
There are also grommets in the spare tire well. You could probably figure a good way to run the cables under the car,and bring'em up into the spare well. That's the way I'd try to do it.

Hmmm.....good idea. Prolly run it down the exterior of the car....maybe use some conduit to protect it from being cut, run it next to the sub frame.
Damn, I'll hafta look in to this. |
i have run a 4-gauge wire from the battery to the trunk for my sound system passing thru the fender (the body panel top of the front wheels)
the fender is removable, check the hma service for detailed information. you have to take 3 bolts from the engine bay and a couple of screws behind the turn lamp and the screws that hold the mudguard. also, dont forget the bolt at the door (can be seen when you open the door) if you take it off, it has a really large hole going to the interior wiring harnesses near the clutch pedal.. and an ample space which can fit, i think, up to 4 4-guage wire.. |
