HID's for the H11b's
Good news for you that have H11b bulbs! My Sonata used H11b bulbs up until yesterday, but now I have an H11 5000K HID kit. smile.gif
Modifications from H11b to H11 were extremely simple, as long as you don't mind modifying a small part of your headlight assembly. Here is the inside of my Sonata's headlights before the conversion. This uses the H11b bulb, which has two prongs sticking out of the side to slide into that connector. If your headlight assemblies look like this, then you can do the same thing I did. http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0505.jpg I took out those three screws holding in the H11b base: http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0512.jpg I then slid the bulb connector off of the base: http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0520.jpg I broke off those tabs, which will essentially turn that base into a normal H11 base, allowing any normal H11 bulb to screw into it. http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0521.jpg Drilled holes.. http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0511.jpg Ran wires... http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0522.jpg http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0523.jpg Pictures of the ballast...it's a small one. wink.gif http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0525.jpg Mounting locations, to be changed when it warms up.. http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0527.jpg http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0529.jpg Comparing stock headlights to HID's... http://crookedh.com/munky/hids/102_0499.jpg The pictures of the end result had to wait, but I'll get some tonight. smile.gif |
Nice!
What brand? What wattage? |
It is a 35 watt system. Enough light without messing with the BCM. The BCM starts shutting the lights off if it sees over 55 watts.

Nice I Like

Not with a relayed system. Although IDK if this relayed or not. |

I was talking with Munky about this on EC and he said he wired it directly to the headlight wiring. With it being 35 watts, he does not have a power issue with the BCM; which will shut down the circuit if it sees more power draw than the stock 55 watt bulbs. I thought he wired it up with a relay to the battery, but he said he wired it directly with the headlight low beam power circuit at the headlight. |
Cool. The new digital ballasts are pretty good at working like that. Older ones not so much.

Yep, thanks for the clarifications, Colin.
I've had them wired up to the stock harness with 0 problems, and I use them every day. But, I've been keeping a close watch on them, just in case. I took some pictures that I'll have to share later, they're not on my work computer. |
I picked up some 35w 6000k Apexcone HID's for the wife's GK. I still have to install them.

I might order one when I get my tax return. |
