very nice writeup, especially if you don't want to lower your eyesight looking for an airram and then spending $800 on top. the stock intake isn't too bad but the interior of it looks like bread.

nice diy, I'm planning on doing this to my head, intake and tb before I put it all back together. A dremel should do a good job but a die grinder will probably do it quicker.
I ported the exhaust on my head and manifold when I did the 1.8 piston swap, but the intake looked like an extremely daunting task. I had it all marked up and ready to port, but there was a good 1/4" of material almost all around to remove!!!! I was afraid I'd run into coolant or oil passages in the head with that much porting, so I lightly smoothed them out and left a semi-smooth polish on it for better air turbulence, and to prevent the fuel from beading up on a highly polished surface. With the high compression pistons and ported head, coupled with the 1.8 cam and CAI I already had, the car's a freakin' screamer. I just need some exhaust now.
There wasn't but about all of a 1/16" of material to move from the exhaust side, so I took full advantage of that!!!

I did JUST my IM, not the intake runners on the head yet, and noticed a difference in the way the car revs up and the sound. Actually made it sound a lot nicer along with revving more freely.
