1. Download Destinator 3: http://rapidshare.de/files/12981708/...ator3.zip.html (32,1 MB).

2. At the new window click on Free.

3. Wait untill the 35 sec passes.

4. Type the required characters and click on download.

5. Unzip the file. In order to unzip it you will need Win Zip or Win RAR. If you don’t have in installed in your computer you can download it from here: http://rapidshare.de/files/2350103/wrar320.exe.html

6. Install the files as described at the Instructions.txt file which is in the compressed file.

7. Go buy a GPS receiver. I use the Holux GR-231. Which I bought from e-bay.

8. Install the GPS receiver to you laptop.

9. Run Map Monkey.exe then go Menu and then GPS Status. As soon the satellites are scanned you are ready.

10. If you like you can buy a car laptop mount from e-Bay.

11. Realize iGuidance blows away all other software, has great 3D views which let you zoom in close while still seeing ahead, and much better directions. Fork over $90 and consider it the best purchase you ever made.

Can you give a break down of prices, so we know an estimate of costs and something to compare it to when shopping around?

Cost of laptop stand - Don't know, I have a 7" monitor molded into my dash.

Cost of GPS receiver - $25-125 depending on what you go with. I have a Holux GM-210 that cost me $45 shipped. It's cheaper now on ebay. The more expensive GPS mice connect to sats faster, and usually have a lock on more sats as well.

Cost of any software - Braker's method is free and legal. You may find MS streets and trips at a rock bottom price, but I wouldn't use that if you paid me, it's terrible. I already mentioned what I like. I've tried most available and prefer iGuidance. They have a version for PDAs as well. iGuidance is not friendly for small touchscreens though, so it takes some tweaking to get everything right.

I don't ever want to drive a car without GPS again. I love it so much. Even after driving in Richmond for ten years, I am now finding so many shortcuts I never knew about. I never get lost, no longer have to make u-turns or circle a block several times to find a new place, and can quickly locate any restaurant via the point of interest feature in iGuidance.

just to give you an idea, the GPS receivers used in Cessna 172's here at school are like only $350 a peice. And they have to go through the process of being tested by the FAA (like every other thing on a plane) which ALSO costs money and raises the price of the product...

The laptop stand costs around $43 (including shipping):

The holux GR-236 GPS receiver costs around $115 (including shipping):

The software is free: http://rapidshare.de/files/12981708/...ator3.zip.html

Here in Greece a PDA navigation device such as Acer or Mitac costs more than $540

And with the laptop I have internet connection through a Vodafone PCMCIA card and car monitor system through digimoto software.
