If you describe what you were doing as looking for a needle in a haystack and you describe your results as finding a crowbar . . . you might want not want to tell the world you've found the answer to life, the universe, and everything just as soon as you think you have results.
Then again, that won't get you a research grant renewal, so ANNOUNCE RIGHT AWAY!
...and once you figure it all out, do be sure to begin talking about what it was that exploded and where THAT came from. And no, "nothing exploded" is not a valid answer.

It is not logical to say that everything always existed. There must eventually be an un-caused first cause. It is overly-simplistic to think that the universe we know is all there is to know including the nature of time. But my main problem with this type of "LOOK zOMG PROOF OF t3h BIG BANGZ!" type reporting after one experiment with some sort of strong-looking data result is - it's only one experiment.
/. delivers a somewhat wider spectrum of science comments than our car forum. From comments about this story there, I find this post from someone who actually gets this sort of science, and he also says 'not so fast, reporters' and mentions other Serious Scientists are also not willing to jump to the claimed conclusions based on just the one experimental result.

Not to say the universe isn't doomed, it's all going to be destroyed at some point.
