I would like to start a list of must-have Android tools. I'm not talking about apps which let you display your gamer tag on your home screen. I'm talking about serious tools. What good apps are there?

Android Terminal: Lets you interface with a Bourne-Again SHell (BASH). A powerful shell app which allows you to design custom scripts to reorganize data, access devices directly, and search around inside the filesystem.

android-flashlight: turns the LCD into a flashlight. So far I have not found one which lets you use a camera LED as a flashlight.

wardrive v3.7: marks on a map unsecured wireless internet applications which allows you to quickly locate the nearest unsecured wifi hotspot

Speedtest.net: utilizes the same servers as Firefox, but in a Android screen friendly application, giving you the ping time and speed of the connection

android-vnc-viewer: allows you to interface with your Linux/Mac computer at home using the pinch interface, touchscreen and keyboard.

USAA app: for USAA customers only, allows you to take a picture of a check and deposits. Then you write VOID on the check.


So lets hear it.. I'm switching to Android soon and I'd like to hear about the cool stuff which I don't know about.

awesome to setup your own little "mifi" access point which will use the 3G connection.

shop savvy - saved some coin using this program

pandora - good radio program

weatherbug - works better sometimes than the weather channel widget

bloo - better version of facebook for the droid

convert pad - converts all sorts of measurements

google sky map - want to know what that is blinking in the sky? this will tell you what star or planet it is by holding the phone up to the area.

3D Level - allows you to graphically see the level of the tilt sensors. Useful as a way to level objects, assuming your phone has a flat surface.

 

^^^i was going to suggest that but didnt know how many people actually use their phone as a level.

another good level is the Johnson brand level. i use it to level my target archery bows if that tells you anything.

 

Dtn, if you search for droidlight led flashlight, its a free app from motorola that does in fact let youu. Use. The camera led, it works pretty well!

 

the led flashlight app can ruin the flash

so you gotta be careful with that

It probably only works if you have a Motorola phone. "FlashApp" works for the HTC Evo, uses either the small LED (constant) or brighter LED (it flashes only)
