Are forums a dying technology?
Since Facebook has the option to create groups and allow people to have to have discussions, do you guys think forums and message boards are a dying technology? Or will there always be a need and want for them? I think forums are much better than discussion groups like facebook because it allows you to place discussions in a proper order. And you can search for answers easier than you can in a discussion group.
Searching Facebook groups sucks. It has a search feature, but it only retains a year worth of photos and posts within the group. It also depends on the size, some 500+ member groups are impossible to search and find things.
It works GREAT for regional stuff or local meets. It's great for publicizing events, but for historical reference and longevity, forums still win. It's so much easier to categorize and organize, especially when you're as large and broad as this forum's membership base.
Besides... Facebook is blocked at my work. HA isn't.
Oh yeah, and we aren't selling your personal information

Forums that take the UsE dA Sserbberch, too much might go away. That gets annoying. Yes I understand it when the turbonator shows up twice a day, then jump them. However, a merge on the thread = not as annoying, esp when you are searching and find the damn UsE Da SERRERCH threads instead of the original (using google) Bumping an older topic might have it seen by someone with a solution. Instead of letting it die and... just stay bad?
Message boards will never go away. Some might slow down to a crippling halt *cough*HP*cough* but they will always be around and continue to emerge as new pop culture, technology, automobiles and trends in society happen.
