The industry is tending to move away from Flash. Flash is somewhat like an animated GIF that keeps running and wasting processor power. They stopped supporting it because it killed battery life.

HTML5 supports most of the functions of flash, but it is event oriented rather than process oriented.... On HTML5, you click something and it does something. On Flash, it will continue to run until you alter its state by clicking something.

HTML5 is more tailored to low powered devices, however, I don't think it's right to just NOT support an industry standard.

I had a jailbroken app a year ago that I used on my iPhone and had no battery draining issues when I used it. Too bad they stopped supporting it. Flash updates are more frequent then when apple releases updates to their IOS which is why apple probably doesn't want to leave a vulnerable plugin running on ppls phones as they try to rush out an update to fix it. Apple doesn't even use adobe acrobat for viewing PDF's on phones either, they use their own PDF reader which isn't immune to exploits either since a few jailbreaks use PDF vulnerabilities to root the phone.

I think apple just hates adobe and by preventing ppl from adding an app to enable flash for those who don't care about so called battery draining issues is just childish and that's why I rarely use my phone to browse the web.

I hate being told what I can or can't do with stuff I own.
