Default How much does your household spend on groceries ?

I went out for a few beers last night with a couple of friends and I dont know how this topic came up but we started talking about how much we spend on groceries every month. My one friend spends close to $500 a month and the other almost $400. They both have live in girlfriends. I live by myself and I spend around $300 a month ($75 a week on average). I thought this was alot until I heard what they spend. Anyone here spend $4-500 a month also? That just seems like an awful lot of food to me.

i would say i probably spend about 300-350$ a month of so total on groceries and I have a 3.5 year old and a fiance living with me. 500$ seems like a lot a month for just having a live-in girlfriend, but it depends on if they eat out alot or eat in 90%+ of the time.

If they eat out alot then yeah thats a TON a month for groceries, but either way, seems high to me.

Also depends on what people eat.. if they are out buying T-bone steaks, crab legs, angus beef and/or organic stuff, that could easily tack on 25-35% to what i would buy at the store (rarely buy steaks and expensive seafood, buy 85/15 beef, pork in bulk and cut it myself, don't buy organic)

We eat out ALL the time, but my wife frequently takes her lunch to work. I'd estimate $60-70/wk in groceries, peaking around $100-110/wk but that usually includes some $16 eyeliner/brush/makeup/whatever and/or a prescription.

We spend between $500-800 at restaurants/mo.

Me, the wife, and an 11 yr old normally run probably around $400 a month in groceries, and $300-$500 eating out.

Usually around $350, give or take $50. I eat a lot. We go out to eat only about every other month (and only for a special event), but we usually have some sort of gift card.

The family and I attempt to spent only 300 monthly on grocies, but it usually plays out more around 400, We dont eat out often, But when we do get out to eat, it is usually a $100 dollar dinner with drinks included, or we will go to the butcher and pick up special cuts and have a nice home dinner.

But unlike the familys with kids, I have a 85 lbs Rot, and a 72 Husky/Boxer. So they usually eat about 150 dollars worth of dog food/bones/treats a month also.

Probably 450- 550 just me and my lady. If I were to include supplements I wouldn't be happy with myself lol
