Thumbs up Cooking with Cast Iron: How the hell do I clean it?

Ive read to use NO soap but other people say to use a little bit of soap. Others say just hot water, etc.


But I cant get all the pieces of food off with just water...so wtf is the deal dunno.gif huh.gif

I always scrubbed the crap outa my cast iron but I was also told not to do so.

That's a decent guide to using and caring for them. We don't use soap on them but you can, just not a lot. Once it's seasoned well the food won't stick to it that you have to scrub a lot.

Scrub it with a towel and some kosher salt. The salt is abbrasive enough to remove the food, but not enough to scratch and pit the cast iron.

I scrub mine with hot water and a nylon scrunchy-looking thing. If it gets really nasty, I use soap and then re-season it.

Easiest way.

Clean the pan while it is still hot.

Second easiest way.

Heat the pan up and dump in a cup of boiling water. Scrape and tada no more stuck bits.
