the engine overheated. Temp gauge showed it, fluid was BOILING, and steam was coming out from under hood.

Did having the ACC on help the engine cool off?

Damn that kinda sound like a head gasket or a broken water jacket. sad.gif

second thought check and make sure all your freeze plugs are tight and not leaking once engine reaches operating temp......

the head gasket could easily be ruined after such a massive overheat. I doubt that it caused the problem since the miles are sorta low on the car, but it might definitely be something to check now.

Was the coolant the ONLY thing leaking, or was there a lot of water or other fluids as well?

That is exactly what happened to me yesterday to the tee. I had a bad T-stat please check that first. Mine has been running fine since. The cost of T-stat fluid and new seal was under 20 bucks man.

I am going to guess waterpump actually. There are no hoses on the passengerside of the engine compartment except for that to the resevoir. The squealing as probably the bearing breaking up and making the belt slip over the pulley.

My serious opinion, you had the car in for the 60,000 service.. when they replaced the belts, somebody tightened it up too tight and it destroyed the bearing in the waterpump.

Mine squelled a lil too when all of that happened but when I went looking it was the overflow spewing out onto my belts and then made them slip.

I think you're right mang.

I noticed a slight rattling sound and I ALWAYS suspected it to be that the belt was too tight, or that the belt wasn't lubricated.

I guess the bearing only lasted about 1,000 mi until it was destroyed. I left it at the dealer though, I am trying to pinpoint exactly what the problem is before I do anything about it.

LOL and you were questioning the quality of the manufacturer? Looks like simple maintenance came in and rocked your car. I agree with Mad-Machine, I was going to ask if there was a squeeling at all.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (2kShark)</div><div class='quotemain'>Yes, I did check the temperature gauge as this was happening and the needle was at the very top (inbetween the red margin) and just as I noticed the car was overheating is when I saw steam coming out of the right side of the hood, right where the coolant is.</div>

Mad-Machine even had this in his signature.

"The Hyundai Temp Gauge has 3 settings: Cold - Normal - And you just toasted your engine!"

Case in point right there. If this is the case ask the Hyundai guys to check your water pump assembley to make sure it's functioning properly.

Hyundai made a decent car, only thing we REALLY have to worry about is those goddamn wheel bearings.

this is why I asked if there was any fluid other than the green coolant. Was the fluid coming from the Coolant resevior overflow hose? The one that just stops and points downward right behind the coolant holder?
