it has not been too good with the tiburon, after getting the parts to fix the tree damage i'm pretty sure the trans is going out and if this is true i'm going to get rid of it. i love this car but it's just way too hard to get parts for it or find a mechanic that has the know how to work on that damn car. i'v even tried to find a newer one on autotrader but the 10 they have are auto or have really high miles. for $2000 ( trans at hyundai dealership) i really don't know if it's worth it

on ebay they like 500 or so. and you could do it your self we have a DIY here somewhere.

thanks i will check ebay but just no time to do it myself and i don't know how much a shop will cost also i'm not a good mechanic i might screw something up

whats the tranny doing thats making you think its going out?

realkdm99 09-23-2006 02:55 AM

it's missing shift points, revving high(3200rpms in 1st) and whinning but the the strangest thing is it only does it when the car is cold. i dunno maybe i'm crazy

Reset your ECU and drive it hard for about an hour.

Im trying that in the morning.

Also, I have noticed that Tiburon auto trans are VERY fussy about how much fluid they have in them.

I went to get my oil changed a while back and they topped it up.. and I think they overfilled it because it shifted like a pile of cack afterwards for a few days.

so far the car has been fine and i know i'm not losing it. got the fluid changed in june and it still looks good. i guess i'll just drive it till the damn thing needs replaced

As crappy as everyone says our auto trannies are, even when mine was in need of replacement, it is still running fine 5 months later, and I'm not even the owner!!

3200rpm isn't that high. It may tend to hold the gears longer since the car is colder so it wants to warm up. Cold temperatures effect all transmissions, new and used.

I doubt there is anything wrong with it.

no worries man.. seriously.. when it gets cold auto transmission HATE it. i had an auto TSi once, and in the cold it idled high, and SUCKED for shifting until it warmed up.. before you drive, let your car idle for like 10 min til it hits normal opperating temp.. then drive it.. i almost guarentee it wont happen.. also, you misewell change the transmission oil, and the filter, always helps..
