I know it's been b****ed about a hundred times in the past, but I haven't got my chance yet.

Got my car jacked up and set out to install my headers. I thought I was all smart when I got the factory exhaust manifold recall done late last year. I figured once they've changed it out for the recall, all the nuts would be nice and fresh and easy for me to take off, once I got my headers.

So here I am now. The manifold came off very easily, as anticipated. What I had forgotten all about was the downpipe coming off the manifold. Which was NOT taken off by hyundai when they did the recall. And now i'm fighting with 7 years worth of rust buildup.

I can not get these nuts off.

I soaked it down with PB about 3 days ago, and have tried again every night since then, soaking those suckers each time. This last time, my wrench flew off, my breaker bar skittered across the floor, and I rounded the edge off the nut.

So i'm pissed now. Thanks for listening.

just use a chisel and a hammer. That is what I had to do to get mine off. I ended up strectching the one nut but it did eventually come off. I just needed a new nut, but not bolt/stud.

I think we've all ran into this problem. It is very frustrating.

Just cut it.

I'd use a dremmel. Those suckers make everything easier. I cut my engine mount using 2 dremmel bits. If you're careful, you can cut anything without the bits breaking. I'm betting you could slice two rusted bolts with 2 dremmel bits.

Yeah, I need to buy a new dremel, but that's what i'm going to end up doing. I just wanted to b****. wink1.gif

My last dremel caught on fire...

If I do end up having to cutting the stud, does anyone know offhand what size I would need for a replacement?
Also, they look like they're welded on on one side..?

You need a nut splitter. Used properly it will not harm the threads on the studs at all.

And here is a place to buy them if you cannot get one locally:

^^ That's pretty nifty. I should pick up a set of those anyway.
