Little Misfortune With The Tib
For all those who say large exhaust tips are worthless, I have a story for ya. wink1.gif
Alright, I'm sure you guys all know (at least the ones on the East Coast) that a tropical storm came through my area today. Needless to say, it was fast moving and caught me off guard in an area I didn't know.
I took a wrong turn, and turned around the way I came back. I went over a hill that I had just went over two minutes before going 30mph (reasonable speed for that turn in this weather) and what was once dry had turned into a river. I hit the brakes pretty hard, but since it was a blind turn I really had nothing to do. I hit the water, hydroplaned like crazy, and skidded hard to the right. I corrected that skid, but hydroplaned again and ran out of room to save the car. I slid backwards into an embankment at around 20mph.
Frankly, I was surprised at how little damage there was to the rear bumper. Nothing serious at all, a few scratches and a little warping that can be fixed by me. However, my exhaust was tore to pieces. My exhaust tip took the brunt of it, and I bent the muffler 90 degrees to the right, which pushed my inner fender well against my rear tire.
So I was stuck in the pouring rain with no tools in the middle of nowhere with the fender well rubbing on the tire. I had to improvise and found a a stick that was tough enough to bend the fender well back, and managed to drive home without encountering any more lakes.
Needless to say, if my exhaust hadn't taken that hit, I'm sure I would be looking at a lot more damage. Instead, I'm looking at rewelding my muffler and redoing a foot of piping or so. I consider myself lucky. Sorry no pics, my digital camera is dead, and my scanner is retarded.

Tibby01, I think it at least saved my rear bumper at least from cracking I'm sure. I hit the hill pretty hard, I actually broke loose the exhaust clamp holding my muffler on the piping. Of course, since the hill was wet it might have cushioned it a little, but I think it helped. lmao.gif
