Freaking NY State!
 

So just found out that starting in 2016, if you go to have a vehicle inspection and your ABS, SRS, or TPMS light is on....you'll fail and be denied an inspection sticker. So if you a different set of wheels, you either have to transplant them from the OEMs or buy a whole new set. :fp:

It's been like that in Maryland for long as I can remember.

Or just buy a set of TPM sensors and put in your aftermarket wheels and be done with it. I've done that with both my truck and my sisters Soul. No big deal. I wouldnt buy new ones though. Got mine used for both and they work just fine. A lot of the sensors are used on multiple cars. Just be sure you have the right part number for your vehicle. Saved me close to 200 bucks getting them used!



Its gotta be annoying and BS that they wont give an inspection sticker because of it. Here in Denver, its just easier dealing with the tire shops to suck it up and put the TPMS's in the aftermarket rims. They wont guarantee their work if the OEM had TPMS. Discount wont even mount the tire on the rim! LOL!

All in all, it's probably A Good Thing





If you split up the reasons why TPMS or SRS lights are on, 5% are probably because of innocuous modifications. 95% are because the car is a poorly maintained bombshell and the owner has unrepaired damage.

Or just keep OEM wheels/sensors and swap for inspection. Simple enough...

Like wos said, there is a definite safety reason for this, however knowing to politics in NY state I would not be surprised if there was some kind of witch hunt against car mods.





Just swap over the OEM sensors and call it a day

Good thing I know a very lienant NY state inspector...oh wait... It's me :thumbup:
