Every time I take off my Elantra's rear wheels, there are the endlinks looking all rusty. Taking one off frequently entails vise grips, impact guns, Dremels, hacksaws, Sawzalls, files, and that's only the stuff I used today after the recommended 14mm box-end wrench and long ratchet didn't do the trick. It didn't work because the backside rounded off due to rust, even though the endlink has been on for about 4 months. And after trying all of the above, the other end comes right off. Too bad it's not the end I wanted off, the end attached to the strut. The one on the other side came right off, after the strut decided to give it an oil bath 2 weeks ago. And, no store has one in stock. They're all warehoused in some distant place. Can't they keep just a pair on hand, considering anytime any Tib/J2 owners here in the Northeast are going to buy them 15 minutes after they start work on the rear suspension? Arrrgh!!!!!

 

Did you try any WD40 or penetrating oil?

Or the tightening before loosening deal?

Worked well for me.

 

Yeah, I use penetrating oil on everything before I start a project. Btw.. needle nose vice grips are the way to go on the endlinks. I usually start with the penetrating oil, smack it with a hammer a few times, walk away, smoke a cigarette, BS for a while, then come back, put the vice grips on the bushing side and use the impact wrench to get it off. You should try putting some penetrating oil on it, then comming back to it after the penetrating oil does it's thing.

 

Yeah, I soaked that side that didn't come off in PB Blaster over a period of a few hours. Tried tightening it on, didn't work. The wrench on the inside didn't want to grip. Nor did vise grips. Likely the part rusted down from road salt. The wrench worked just fine on the other one. Some moly grease on the new one before installing will make removal easier in the future.
