I have a 97 tibby fx with 51k on the odometer. Starting two days ago my manual transmission would pop out of fifth gear as I was on the gas. It is doing it now like every five minutes when I'm in 5th gear. I have to physically hold the shifter into the 5th gear shift gate or it will pop out of it by itself in about 2 mins of having the gas on in 5th gear. This tends to get annoying on the highway. Does anyone know why my tiburon randomly pops out of fifth gear?

Italian transmissions are notorious for doing that. You either have worn gears, a bent shift fork (most likely) or a going bushing. Go get it fixed.... while you can live without fifth, it does make it easier on the engine and on your nerves.

I've heard of cars doing that and I will agree with Mad-Machine that it's either a worn gear or bent shift fork.
