Wider Tires...
Not sure if this has been covered yet, but I'm on my slow iPhone and I'm really tired, but I currently run 205/40/17 tires and want to go with 215/40/17 tires because they are wider. The only concern I have is the clearance with the fender. With my 205's, everytime I hit a big bump my tires hit my fenders and bend them a bit (the fender lip) would I need to get my fender lips rolled in the front? Anyone else running wider than 205/40/17's? Thanks.
I have 215/45/16's and have no rubbing issues whatsoever on the fenders, even being lowered roughly 3-4".
I still have a set of 225/45/16's in the basement that were rubbing like hell on the fenders before but now that I have my camber set to 1.8 neg front and 1.4 neg rear rubbing should no longer be an issue. However they will wear out a bit faster on the inside of the tread due to the amount of negative camber.
Car handles MUCH better though!

Yeah, I know, but he will have a 40 sidwall instead of my 45. The perfect tire size for him would probably be a 215/35/17 if he is worried about rubbing. It is only going to be .6 mph slower than the speedo at 60 so, if you can find the tire you want in that size go for it.
The 40 series will be 1.8 mph faster than the speedo.

sumitimo HTRZ II doesnt have 215/35/17. I don't always rub. Just only if I hit a bump or go up a hill when my wheel is turned. It only rubs on my drivers side fender due to it being an aftermarket fender, it could be off with the wheel clearance a little...it looks like my tire is tucked in on the drivers side, and on the passenger side, it looks like it almost tucks, but you can see the top of the tire. You'll probably need pics to see what I'm talking about. I think I'll go with the 215/40/17 sumitimo HTRZ II tires...pretty good for the money.

with the proper springs, good strut mounts, and proper 17x7 rims, 225/40/17 is as big as you can go without having to worry the slightest about fender rubbing.
the only time your fender will rub is if you have something messed up, like a bent fender, too low a spring, or a bent strut mount.

I'm riding on Maxxis Maz1 215/40-17 on all 4 wheels with no problems what so ever. I've got 2 degre - camber in the front and 1 - in the rear with an Eibach prokit drop et KYB GR-2 struts. I've been riding with those tires all summer and haven't it a fender once. My rims are Ikon Gt5 17x7 with 42mm offset. I don't see why you would have any troubles with 215 wide tires and 17" rims.
yeah, it must be because the repair shop put an aftermarket stock drivers side fender on my car about 2 years ago, since it rubs on that fender only. The fender must be lower than the other one, making it have little wheel clearance.
