upgrading my brakes
Reading this thread on a brake upgrade got me thinking. I'd like to do something similar, but I have some questions first. The front brake discs are larger than the rear ones, correct? Would it be possible to move the front rotors to the back for more surface area, and then put the 11" rotors on the front?
Also, has anyone found drilled/slotted rotors for the 2004 Sonata w/ ABS, and can anbody confirm they are really 11" and fit on our cars?
And finally, I'd like to replace the front calipers with the 2-piston GK/XG calipers at Kspec. It says that 11" rotors are recommended, but will they fit on the stock rotors? And is there a difference between front and rear calipers? If the front ones are larger or something I'd like to take the stock front ones and move them to the back, but I don't think there's a difference.
Basically what I am trying to do is upgrade the front brakes and rotors, and then move the original front rotors to the back to upgrade those as well. If anybody has any other ideas I'm open to suggestions, but I'd rather not spend $1,500 on a big brake kit.

You've got a lot of questions to answer here. You have too many almost. Make them shorter so we can help you man. Here goes.
Yes. They are also wider. Normally there will be two sides to the fronts becuase it spreads heat away better, in turn stopping you faster.
No.
Yes, do a search there was a group buy on rotors a while back and we still get a discount I believe. This is also answered next. As for the ABS it does not matter, I believe the ABS is only an electronical issue and has no bearing on the type of rotor.
Okay I'm not really sure but I think you have to use the whole front brake assembly off of a GK. I don't believe they will fit the stock rotors because the GK's got better brakes than we did. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. There are brakes that are swapable.
You cannot do that, just compare the rotors from the front and the back and you'll see what I mean. There is a reason that when you ask to purchase new rotors they ask if you need the front and the back.

Sorry, I know that is a lot of questions! But I am trying to get this all sorted out before I start buying things.
In the previous thread some people said only the ABS model had the 11" rotors. I guess I will have to check and find out.
The kspec page says the GK calipers will fit all Hyundai vehicles, but 11" rotors are "recommended," so I assume it would be ok for the RD and RD2.
Thanks for your help.

Hmmm. Well then, I guess you're right, they "recommend" 11 inch rotors because you'll get better stopping power. They should just bolt on.
As for the size of the rotor in respect to ABS, it does not matter. I am sure of that. ABS is electronic and has nothing to do with size of calipers or rotors. Bigger brakes just stop better, end of story.
Check out the caliper thing though there is a thread in this forum I know I just couldn't find it. The only problem I see is mounting the caliper.
**EDIT**
Found, this is it I think.

I was having the same question, mostly about the ABS, now what r u guys talking about the Kspec 2 piston calipers? the thread of the mod meant just to buy the gk front calipers and drop them in like plug & brake hehe are the K spec calipers different from the stock gk ones??? since there is no issue with the ABS the only thing I need right now is start saving some money to buy the parts...
