Today after getting tired of drive with my tires rubbing i change the front tires from 215/45/17 to 205/40/17...get them balanced and got a wheel alignment

now i am getting steering wheel wobbly at speeds above 40

help a brother out...

How much weight did they take to balance out. If they needed more then average you may have a wee bend in your rim.

i dont know...im going back there tomorrow it get this resolved

Watch them balance your tires this time. I've seen on several occasions where there's a moron operating the balancing machine, and they don't set it up properly, or they just don't care enough to check the balance after hammering on weights. Make sure they set up the offset properly, and the wheel width needs to be measured from bead to bead. And most certainly chew some ass if they don't re-spin the wheel after hammering on weights.

You should also get them to check for a separated tire. That sometimes happens straight from the tire factory too.

ok so yesterday i took it back to the shop and they re balanced them, i even watced them do it as well...and everything seem to be fine...they did say i had a slit bend, and they said sometimes aftermarket rims have them coming from the manufactor...

so i go take it for a test drive and its still there horrible wheel wobbie...so now i thinking that i may have a bad wheel bearing so to confirm it i checked it out and no wheel bearing problem...

so this moring i change back to my stock rims and its gone...

so my question is because i only change the front tires to 205/40/17 and left the back ones 215/45/17 could this be a problem?

I doubt it, might give a small pull mat the most. Sounds like you may have a bad rim. Sometimes they will balance but still be bent, this is what I have been driving with 02.gif

Did they do this on a ROADFORCE balancer or just a normal balancer? Chances are that one of the tires may be out of round or theres another issue here with the combo. A roadforce balancer will find it.

mwood, how far are you from stevensville, MD? If you were to come into my work, I can almost guaruntee I can fix it, at the very least I can improve it.

mwood 06-29-2008 09:38 AM

i dont know what type of balancer they used

i mapquested your city and i am 78 miles from you about 1hr and 45 minutes...i will hit you up about this and come out ther either the 9th or 10th...

i will give you a call later today

Tomorrow might work out fine. If I can remember to talk to my manager in the morning, I can probably drop you a call or text (easier to text at work) to let you know if its ok. Might have to have you deliver something to me as well if you're coming up this way wink1.gif

edit: This is a roadforce balancer.
