powder coat, paint, or plasti dip?
 

I just got some new to me used wheels and I want them gold. Everyone has been getting on me because I want gold rims but when I got my GK it just hit me I want gold rims. I can't decide how I want to get them gold powder coat, paint, or plasti dip.

Powder coat- from Google image searching I like the look of powder coat the most. I don't know much about it and will have to pay some to do it so it might be the most expensive route



Paint- I could spray paint them which would be the cheapest but it wont look as good as a pro doing it which if I go with paint I won't pay anybody but willing to pay for a powder coat. I been wanting to get a gun and learn to paint which would take time and money and I don't want to wait long.



Plasti dip- the new craze lol. I have done some research and it seems easy. I could change up the color if I want. But I dont think it would look as good as a pro powder coat and how long does it last?



Now I'm all for DIYs and saving money but I want to do it right the first time. I'm kinda leaning towards the powder coat but if I can be happy going with paint or plasti dip that's cool. What do you guys think is a good way to go? Any experience with either would help. Thanks and I added a poll just because.

the majority so far has voted favorably of plastidip..easy on & easy off in case you don't like the color..and besides..who doesn't love peeling stuff?

Powdercoating is permanent and the most lasting but it will look the absolute best out of all 3 options.



Plastidip isnt really new and in fact getting very played out. But like stated, its easy to spray and peel off if you get bored with the look.

Spray paint them for $34.97. Take your time with prep and use many, many light coats plus a clear coat or two. It will look great from a few feet away if you don't cock it all up, and how often do you get closer than that to your WHEELS?



Powder coating is THE way to go, if you do not mind the expense. I think Plastidip on wheels is stupid.

I think Ima go with painting them myself. I can't find a gold color paint what I have been finding is a gold metalizer paint gives it more of a gold look them a gold color if you know what mean ; the metalizer is flakey and shiny. But after seeing more of the gold metalizer paint I think I like that more but before looking I didn't want to spray them with that. Well ill be doing it soon and will show you guys. I like the BBS gold kinda the look I'm going for.

Plasticoat is an easy way to change if you don't like the look. As far as painting them yourself, if you can't find the color gold you want premixed, you can have a custom mix made and put into a spray can at auto body supply houses locally. Good luck and have fun!
