Possible to turn your own rotors?

Can someone do this at home in the garage with something, or is it just better to take it to a mechanic? I prefer to do things myself and go the DIY route, but if its more work than its worth I'll take it somewhere.

If you have the right equipment, but I think it would take sometime to get a return on investment if you go out and buy the stuff to turn your own. Many auto-parts stores will turn them for you, pretty cheap.

You get what you pay for sometimes. There are a couple different ways to turn rotors, and one results in notably longer stopping distances.

Why do you want to turn your rotors? If they have hot spots and are badly warped that's one thing. Minor grooving from use just means a more careful bedding-in period for your new pads, and turning is not necessarily required.

Just take it to the shop; they only charge a few bucks a rotor last time I checked ($30 for all four).
