Painting Calipers
 

I heard painting the calipers is easy just time consuming. I was told by another Tiburon driver to get engine paint and spray the calipers directly and not worry too much about mild overspray on the disc since the first time you break, it will come right off. Now another friend told me I will need to replace the pads if I do this. Opinions please.

Mask off as much of the disc as you can. If you get a LITTLE paint on there, no big deal. If you have an area larger than a dime, I would sand it off with 600+ grit sand paper. If you go with a corser grain sandpaper you can mess up your rotor surface.

I've got some photos of XtremePC's car. That's what he did, but he still messed up his pads with Paint residue...

So okay so I mask off as much as I can on the disc. What about cleaning residue with a minor solvent?

BAD IDEA. That solvent that eats paint...think of what it would do to brake pads...

Also keep in mind, this is no ordinary paint. This is high temp stuff, Akin to spray power coating. Turpentine and the like will NOT get this stuff off.

Just wondering, wouldn't it be better to take the calipers off to paint them? And if you did paint them, wouldn't they constantly get dirty from brake dust and stuff?

I don't know how hard or how complicated their removal would be. Someone told me it would just be easier to mask off the disc. Or am I wrong?

I just finished painting my calipers and it came out great but don't use spray paint too much of a mess. I got mine from www.ultraperformance.com it cost $50 but it came with a cleaner spray and boy does it work, paint and hardener liquid. This stuff worked great once it was finished and set it formed almost a plastic cover over my calipers. Real easy to clean and they never stop shining like new. I highly recommend this paint kit!!!!! :D :D :D

When I painted my calipers I used engine spray paint. I found it best to mask the rotors and take the calipers off but not disconnecting the line. I then sat the caliper on top of the masked rotor and sprayed. It was pretty simple and I didn't get paint on the rotors or pads.

I am just a little paranoid about damaging anything. I would like to avoud removing parts I am not sure I can re-attatch without a problem.
