I am trying to take off my front driver side wheel to get the wheel well cover off. the lug nut was hard to get off at first and i tried to loosen it, eventually it came loose, but now the lug just spins and wont come off. it is almost off, but it will not come off. what could this be? what can i do to fix it??

just spins? sounds like it's stripped or something. try tightening it back on a bit then loosening it again?

tried a socket mounted on an impact driver and still no luck at all.. tried pliers, no luck. it spins and is almost off, from what i can see the wheel stud is in place and doesnt spin?? any ideas on what to do without cutting the lug and or ruining the rim?? help me out

thanks

Studs are less hassle to replace than they are to cut off. Cut it, drive a new one in when you're done with whatever other work you were doing.

strange... use your fingers and see if the stud is moving with the nut.

maybe it stripped the stud and there are no grooves for it to move to. Have you tried pulling the nut while spinning it, to see if you can force it onto a groove? I agree, cut it off if possible (or break it off) and replace the stud for $4 from the dealership. I wasn't able to find a long enough stud at autoparts stores several years ago.

Or you can do what this guy did http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2684546

(don't do it)

break it off(doubt you are able to cut it) and order a new stud from the dealership. check the DIY approved listing, i wrote up a how to on replacing wheel studs. pretty simple.

FYI - I believe similar year Sonatas used the same stud. I replaced one of mine, and the dealership gave me a gold stud. Now I'm pimpin'!
