e brake problems

Just an FYI for you guys. You might want to get under you cars and make sure that you e brake cable isn't fraying. Because mine did and snapped with them set. The reason I say this is because the Tech said it wasn't the first one to do this.

mine actually like to freeze closed when the temperature drops.. so i quit using mine smile.gif

my only ebrake related problem involved the caliper...

the r/r actuator arm froze (not synonymous w/ water freezing). the caliper had to be replaced....

but thanks for the fyi

Solo, how hard to you pull your ebrake when you park?

I wanna kill my wife sometimes, she yanks on that thing hard as HELL.

hamhead 01-11-2005 06:53 PM

Yeah, pulling on it too hard can f0x0r it up. Along with yanking it up all the way and doing burnouts. tongue.gif What I always do is measure how much I need (I always park in neutral... habit. Someone tried to steal my Dad's car once and he had left it in neutral. We woke up in the morning to someone revving the engine. Didn't know how to put it in gear. smile.gif LOL) I pull up one notch. If it rolls back, I pull it up another. And so on. When it finally stops rolling back/forward, I pull it up one more notch and I'm good to go. I never need more than 3-5 notches usually.

six to eight notches.. I did not notice any fraying when I was doing my brakes this last week.. where did yours break, Solo?

handbrake

yes yes yes. mine froze too. warped and tore my rotorpros paint. caliper replaced. 300$ down the drain. don't use your e-brakes in the winter! grrrrr!

01tibby 01-12-2005 02:32 PM

mine f***ing locks up every time it gets below freezing. i just keep the thing in gear.

ive been to busy/lazy to check out what the problem could be.

Mad-Machine 01-12-2005 05:09 PM

I can't figure out why yours freeze in the cold weather.. checked the rubber boots on the cable? I live further north than you do in MD and I have never had a problem with mine getting stuck due to ice.

tibwrcsbj 01-12-2005 05:20 PM

I've never had any problems with mine.....4 years of e-brake use, year round, and its not like Im that far from either of you.....
