All About Correct Tire Size And Wheel Offset - A M
#21
Hi, someone is selling some 215/45R17 winter tires. Will these be ok for winter, from the charts, it seems like they are much taller and a little wider. I guess that's bad for winter? I have motegi MR7, let me look up the offset, I'll be back...

In my opinion that is way too big for winter. Not only will it be about 30 mm larger in diameter than stock and make your speedo be out by 5%, it's too wide for a winter tire in a car of this weight. You might as well not bother with them at all.

I know that our stock tires are 195/55/15. I was wondering if 195/60/15 will be alright b/c the winter tires I want do not come in our stock size.
They'll be taller, if your car isn't lowered and you don't care too much about speedo being off a bit, can't hurt the car for the winter months
BUT you should get 195/55r15's or if you're getting 14 "steelies to go 185/65r14, or 205/50r15's if you want to keep your speedo correct

Thanks, I'll consider all those sizes for what I can find. I don't care much about speedo, who looks at it anyway unless theres a cop smile.gif
I found some used Nokian, yaay pick them out tonight. I got some 240SX rims to fit them on, hope the shop don't charge too much to switch tires.

Which Nokian tires have you found?
I would use 195/60R 14 instead of 185/65 R14 (on steellies)

I thought this may be interesting for y'all. This calculator will calculate your actual vehicle speed, engine RPM, efective gear ratios, etc. based on the alternate tire size from stock! http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm
