Never heard of Terrafugia? Don't feel bad, most haven't. They are the inventors of the The Transition® which would very much like to pride itself as the worlds first production flying car...

unfortunately for them after 9 years of trying this is still not officially a production vehicle. Though they do have a few investors and even some reserved units, so the future is no all that bleak. They also have logged serious hours of both air and road time with the prototypes, so with some luck they may just find the market one day.

Then came the TF-X!

Now mind you, this is proposed to have an 8-12 year R&D time before it's production ready. And even that seems ambitious! But there is no denying the "wow factor" of that proposition:

No more runway requirements

Much small package (to meet current aviation weight issues the Transition is still working through)

Retractable propeller blades

everything encloses in chassis panels so finally it resembles a real car!

Hybrid gas/electric drivetrain

All all of this supposedly for the low, low price of a Ferrari F12berlinetta.

This is not going to be, nor is it intended to be a market saturating flying car a la The Jestons. It's an interesting niche market product few can afford and many will covet.

Personally, I think it's cool as f*ck! But there is no way for 300k in 2025 money will you be able to buy what the demos promises.\

What do you stingy mofos think [hate] about it?

People can barely drive in this country as it is. Add flying to the mix, and it's just a disaster waiting to happen.

You say "disaster" I say "eugenics."

I mean, we might have to live underground for a few months, but think about how great it would be for the gene pool!
