Hey!

I'll be getting a bike licence over the next month or so. I'll have a restricted licence for a while so am looking at potentially getting a Hyosung GT650RL (the L is for learner legal) as its power output is initially resticted (with carb sliders) & can easily be de-restricted when I'm off my provisional bike licence. It'll mainly just be for weekends... not for commuting to & from work.

They're pretty popular in Oz these days but I think that's mainly because they're cheap. It's Korean so it has the same image woes as Hyundai but I couldn't give two knobs of goat shit about that.

Anyone here got one or have friends with a Hyosung? Problems? I heard anything post-2005 is alright; prior to that they had issues with engines going bang for no reason, apparently.

They're not the lightest of bikes (around 190kg dry) & only make roughly 79bhp stock (that's unrestricted. 34hp in restricted form) but I've looked around & mods seem easy enough to come by, for what I want anyway. I reckon, for the money, it's about my best bet. The same money over here will otherwise only get me a 10+ year old Honda CBR250-400/RVF400 or Kwaka Ninja250/GPX250/ZZR250 or something like a Suzuki GS500F, etc... as far as what I can legally ride over here for the time being. I reckon I'll want to modify it so I'm looking to get something I can keep for a few years at least. I don't really want to buy a beaten-up piece of crap that I'd have to upgrade in a year or so.

This is what they look like, for those who are unfamiliar with them...

The guy who does work on my FT 500 just became a dealer of those. He let me have a test ride and gave me the whole run down on it. If the Korean thing doesn't bother you like it doesn't me i say go for it. It looked just like the red one and supposedly it's a SV 650 with the plastic clading. They also have a naked version too which i like alot better .

I guess these bikes aren't all that popular then.
