1999 World Rally Championship Round 12 Rally GB, last round.
Alister McRae (Colin McRae's younger brother) had only to drive the Hyundai Coupe F2 to the finish line to win the F2 title of the World Rally Championship. Tied with Renault for first place, the pressure was as high as it could possibly be. With the devotion the team had enforced throughout the entire year, Hyundai simply HAD to snatch Gold, so team orders were to go flat out.
On the last stage, of the last round of the WRC, Alister was already ahead of Renault. All he had to do was cruise to the finish. Instead, he went wide on a turn and flipped the car, losing the world title.
Here he is walking from the wreck, frustrated with only regret on his mind. Seconds ago all victory was within reach, and now it has turned for the worst. Looks like he's really upset. All that work and glory slipped from his fingers.
