Engine knock??
I have a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon and it has started making a knocking noise while accelerating. It's not like it stays constant. It seems to have more to do with engine load than rpm. So I can be at 3k and get some noise then it stops...push the pedal down a little more and it comes back. The best way to try and hear it is to rev up and down while accelerating. I took 1 quart of oil out tonight and replaced it with lucas engine treatment and a little seafoam. I notice the oil was kinda metallic...that sounds like a bad thing! Could it be a rod bearing? If so, couldn't I just change it through the bottom of the engine?
Videos showing the symptoms:
Oil glitter (big "particles" are air bubbles. Actual metal was so fine my paint strainger wouldn't filter it out!):

Parked with hood open (obvious!!):

Driving (not as noticable):

sounds like big end (rod bearings as you call them) to me, might have damaged the crank aswell. You won't really know until you drop them off and have a look for other damage

You may be able to get by with just replacing the rod and crank bearings with the engine in the car provided the crank isn't damaged.
