And I've been hanging around here long enough to know that people, including myself, built similar CAI's to the AEM before they made one themselves. That CAI does not make a noticeable amount of power more than an ebay or homebuilt intake. Who's to say Ebay and AEM didn't knock off one of the member's intakes from here?

It is what it is. I asked a question and made a solution with the K&N gear i had available.
The AEM would not work for me as i have the charcoal can there.
Should the rain get overly bad, ill just disconnect the cold feed from the filter base and run hot.

Why does the eBay one look like the AEM? Because it's a copy. Why does the AEM look the way it does? R&D. I've been to AEM's R&D and production facility in Long Beach. It's not just a piece of pipe. Being in the automotive aftermarket industry for 20 years, I've seen how Chinese knock offs hurt the industry. I choose to buy the branded item.
I absolutely agree with you. The R&D is there, and if youre lucky enough to buy name brands and support it, good for you! I'll be the first to admit, I do have some brands I tend to be loyal to as well. But there are some who cannot afford the high prices they want to charge, and if an adequate solution at a more affordable price is available, then great! You win the car show, and they get to benefit from the performance gain.
