Default How loud will 3 10's be?

Im getting bored with my current sub system and think it's time for a change. Which would be louder, 3 10's in a sealed box or 2 12's in a ported box?

Get 2 15's that's what I had in my RD2 for quite a while.

1 10 done right will rattle your fillings. 2 15s is just excessive. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

IMO, 15s is too much. There's a reason so many of the spl competition vehicles used are vans. 15s not only need a big box, but they also need a big stage!! Sound waves need room to travel. It's part of acoustics. I ran 2 15s and 2 10s with similar wattage. The 10s sounded much better and hit harder.

Think of it this way, you put a ton of time and effort making the box big enough for the specs of the speaker. Well your car is also air space that interacts with the sound waves you're producing. If THAT air space is inadequate, it's a mute point running 15s.

How that sound wave interacts with the interior of the car is important as well. Sound deadening helps the waves stay in the vehicle and slow unwanted vibrations down, just like the same trick of using sound absorbing materials in a box to create the illusion of more air space. But....You can only use that to a certain extent.

Some folks turn the speakers towards the back of the car to allow the waves to bounce off the back of the car and travel forward. This gives the interaction between sound waves and volume of air to more time to interact and become larger, giving you better bass.

The 2 15s had originally been installed in a wagon, then moved to my Tiburon. They were AMAZING in the wagon! Was totally disappointed when I put em in the Tib. Just not a big enough stage.

I have 2 Kicker Solo Baric 10s and they are loud as sh*t. I cant even imagine what 3 of them would be like. That might be overkill for you.
