Hyundai Elantra Forum The Hyundai Elantra Forum. Later models (96-up) of this 4-door share their Beta engines and chassis with the Hyundai Tiburon. Earlier Mistubishi-based Hyundai Elantras (92-95) are perfect candidates for the popular 4g63t motor swap, which turns the Hyundai Elantra into a real sleeper. These characteristics make the Hyundai Elantra a great car for those who want sports car performance with family car flexibility.

Default beta II differences

whats the difference between the 03-06 beta II and the 07-12? Are the crank or cam tone wheels different? Everything looks the same, but the part numbers are different. Has any one swapped one for the other?

As far as i know the theta came in in 09 but not on the elantra. Since they still probably had beta engines laying around and it would reduce production cost. Its just odd that almost everything is the same engine wise 07 to 12. Especially since the tiburon uses the same part number as the 03-06 till 08.

I just cross referenced some part numbers the cranks are the same and the cams are the same so the tone wheels are the same for both. The engine valves are also the same. However the bare blocks and heads are different by 1 number the block changes from 21100-23751 to 21100-23752 and the bare head changes from 22100-23760 to 22100-23780. Piston numbers are also different, but I'm not sure if that has much to do with anything since compression ratios are the same.

Also most of the crucial engine brackets apear to be the same. So, I think the engines for the most part would interchange very easily with out much effort.

Can any one provide any more input?

The nu engine isn't a beta I'm pretty sure that's something totally different. Even on the wiki page the elantra isn't mentioned till '12 so certainly that's not it.

The back of my head has a thought rattling around, wondering if there is a difference in an in-block oil restrictor. Something about changing between beta 1 and 2 blocks and a restrictor for oil pressure to the head.

I have a Nu and a Beta powered elantra. Nu does not equal Beta.

I'm fairly certain the Elantra Touring (trim specific) was still Beta powered through 2012
