I heard a rumor that if you have a big stereo system with pounding bass, that certain low frequencies can cut out your fuel pump. Who's heard of this, and how low of frequencies do you have to hit for that to happen?

I would question the source on that one. Your car already HAS pounding bass, it's called road noise and fuel pumps are made to deal with it. If you had any sort of audio thing going on that made a fuel pump fail,



a) you wouldn't be able to cope with being in the car at the time and

b) you would have heard of multiple examples of it happening already because there are some ridiculously loud systems out there

I've heard that rumor too on countless occasions. It would be cool if Mythbusters or someone could test it to see if it's true or not.

That shouldn't happen unless you have an intermittent open to the fuel pump or in the fuel pump. You could always test this by wiggle test or tapping the fuel pump and harness to it. JS

I think some of the EF hondas were had a problem with developing a broken wire to the fuel pump under the carpet by the back seat.
