Single Throttle Bodies
Is any one on hear using single throttle bodies ( one throttle body per intake runner) if so, how do you like them and do they work good? or is it just for the WOW FACTOR..

im working on making an ITB kit for my escort.. and i've owned one on a built B16B before.
oh they work.. and they work good..
other than the WOW factor.. and the rediculous holy sh*t people will HEAR you coming factor.. they work great.
instant throttle response equal to that of throttle by wire.
very large torque gains.. and top end breathing and pull was absolutely nuts.
if you can fab up a set or find a builder.. i reccomend them..
the only pain in the ass.. a) you HAVE to run full standalone.. cool.gif the vaccuum routing and distribution is very very hard... c) tuning the throttlebodies and the ecu/standalone to work in unison holding enough engine vaccuum under idle and load where the car wont just stall out.
and last.. unless youre making them yourself.. the cost factor is stupid..
there's a few guys that make them for the 1.8L mazda dohc 16 valve im running.. and the CHEAPER price is in the 3000 range..
but at home.. you can make a "kit" basically for the cost of a spare intake manifold.. a set of bike throttlebodies, and a lotta time.
TOPS for a kit minus standalone and tuning,.. just a physical ITB bolt on setup.. maybe might run you 400 bucks TOPS.. and that's if you REALLY splurge on quality stuff.

then you have to get the ecu sorted
sure, it would be awesome, but shithouse on the road
i know somebody who's done it to a r32 rb20de skyline...but that car is rallied/autox'd and has to comply to the 2L class - so it now winds out to 9500 rpm and has NOTHING below 3500rpm

you dont need a fancy cnc designed manifold plate. LOL
you take yoru factory manifold, and you cut a few inches after the flange.. leaving 4 exposes runners.. then you work off of that.
and yes.. welding alloy WILL be necessary if you want to do it properly.
and yeah.. ecu. just run standadone.. MS.. MSII.. ect.

UA...was that a VTEC engine? If so thats prolly why it was so good. Its way more trouble than its worth if you are making it for a 4banger Hyundai engine with stock tunning. Over all best bet is start wit simple I/H/E and get a BBTB. Then get a FIC unit and get it tuned...over all yourcost would be cheeper geting the BBTB and tuning it than to fab up 4 TB and getting them to all open the exact same time and throttle position...I have seen them on built motors and bigger V8's they look sick and they do perform...I just personaly would waste my time.

imho, there IS no way to make ITB's run on a motor that's not running standalone.
and yes. the motor was 1.6L dohc vtec civic type R.
fabbing up 4tb's is as easy as ordering gsxr tb's off of ebay. smile.gif total cost.. maybe between 100-150 bones.
getting them to open, you just have to play with the linkages by linking them together by drilling holes and using bolts and nuts to tie them together.
I'll find some pics of when i had my setup on the B16B. it was all homemade, ran me a total of 200 bucks for everything MINUS the standalone.
but yeah.. no i agree.. on an otherwise STOCK 4 cyl that doesnt have power as a friend already.. there's no point.

Thanks for the info. I have run single throttle bodies on motorcycles for years. But have not seen to many cars with them. As far as making a intake plunum I have a CNC plasma cutter and I know how to weld aluminum. And I will be using a Haltech ECU.
